Snoring and Sleep Apnea

Snoring and sleep apnea is caused by a partial or complete collapse of the upper airway caused by relaxation of the muscles of the soft palate and tongue.

Signs and symptoms include snoring, lack of energy, daytime sleepiness, morning headaches, depression, reflux.

Risk Factors include large neck size, obesity, hypertension, endocrine disorders, male gender.

There is an increased risk of hypertension and stroke in patients with sleep disordered breathing.

Treatment can be accomplished in various ways. We work with your physician to help determine what form of treatment is best for you. For snoring, mild to moderate sleep apnea or patients that cannot tolerate CPAP or BPAP treatment oral devices can be used.

Often your medical insurance will cover sleep appliance therapy See our section on SLEEP WELL WNC for more information, forms and risk assessments.
